On top of being a medical doctor focusing on helping people with chronic lifestyle-related conditions to undertake lifestyle and dietary changes, I am also the head chef of a restaurant I started in 2014, The Bento People, click here to read >> my blog post about the story of How and Why I birthed The Bento People
Although many people call me the 'Doctor turned accidental chef', I am really not keen on nor care about labels or titles, I am just a foodie who loves cooking thrust into the role of head chef by accident. My passion in learning more about food and health led me to starting The Bento People in 2014. As a doctor, I had found it extremely difficult to get my patients to make significant changes to their diets. We Singaporeans live in a food paradise and we Live to Eat. Here, at The Bento People, I get the chance to use a more powerful 'language' to engage people in the conversation about food and health, in the form of food to entice instead of just words to encourage people to eat healthy. Here's the link to the website of my restaurant The Bento People >> http://www.thebentopeople.com IMPORTANT CAVEAT I am not endorsing and I do not guarantee that ALL the food served at The Bento People is 'healthy' or 'healthier'. 'Healthy' & 'Healthier' are unhelpful and sometimes even misleading labels. It is more important for one to know the impact of every single food choices on one's health so as to make the correct choices that are relevant and suitable to one's own health and health goals. My restaurant The Bento People has as its mission to be a living classroom to enable people to try new foods, whether it is to explore new better staple foods or to get more plant-strong so as to enourage people to improve their dietary habits and health. |
