Hi, I am Dr Chan Tat Hon.
Welcome to my personal website and blog.
Many know me as The Habits Doctor because I am known to be a strong advocate of the power of lifestyle/dietary habits change in preventing and combating diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and other lifestyle/diet-related chronic conditions.
Other than my medical practice, I am also active in speaking, training and coaching people to unlock the power of lifestyle & dietary habits change for health. I am also known to many as [What's Cooking Doc?] because of my 5-year stint as a full-time chef in a restaurant I started as living classroom for people to explore new foods to improve their eating habits. [What's Cooking Doc?] is also the name of my YouTube Channel, blog and Facebook page where I share about Habits, Health and Life.
Some people call me 'Doc' because I am a practising medical doctor.
Some call me 'Teacher' or 'Coach' because I am also very active in teaching and coaching people in re-training their lifestyle and dietary habits to preserve health or combat diseases they already have.
Some call me 'Chef' because I am still cooking in and running my restaurant that I started a few years ago which I use as a living classroom to encourage healthy eating habits.

I am an adventurer and in the 20 plus years since I graduated from medical school I've been on many interesting journeys, many of which I am sharing in my blog here.
In this current season, Practising, Teaching, Coaching, 'Preaching' Lifestyle as Medicine is my passion. My calling and purpose is to help people unlock the power of lifestyle for a longer healthier life and to help them jumpstart their journeys of unlocking the power of a healthy lifestyle to 'disease-proof' themselves and most of all their loved ones.
In the past few years, I've been privileged to be invited and given platforms on various TV and print media (collated HERE) to share my story and advocate improving the lifestyle and eating habits of individuals and food culture of our society as the first go medicine to combat chronic lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
I never set out to be a health advocate. I had all along been, like almost all Singaporeans, a die-hard foodie, but a series of events over the years led me to become the health advocate that I am today, especially in the area of how our daily food choices significantly impact our health.
I am a medical doctor and I run a Medical Clinic that emphasizes the use of lifestyle as medicine where I prescribe lifestyle modifications as medicine, coaching patients through dietary modifications & exercise programmes to manage lifestyle related diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cholesterol disorders and body weight issues.
And over time, I found that I needed to do more to help people better understand and appreciate the power of lifestyle for better health, so I started a consultancy and training company 'ENGINES of HEALTH' where I conduct workshops, seminars and healthy lifestyle training programmes for individuals and organisations to awaken, equip and jumpstart participants' lifestyle and dietary habits for longer healthier lives.
Whatever other free time left that I can squeeze out, I would usually be found 'preaching' and teaching the power of lifestyle as medicine at conferences, churches, companies, organisations and events that I get invited to.
Some years back, I also accidentally started a restaurant The Bento People and became the full-time chef there for a few years. I ran the restaurant with my wife from 2014 till we closed it in 2019. I was the head chef running the kitchen while she manages the customers. During that 5 years, I would often be found 'playing with food' in the kitchen thinking of new ways to incorporate new healthier ingredients into new dishes for the restaurant's menu and wherever possible use that as an opportunity to engage my customers to encourage them towards a lifestyle of healthy eating.
All my crazy adventures would not have been possible if not for the unflinching support from my long-suffering wife, You can read my blog post >> 'Behind every adventurous man is a long-suffering wife' if you are keen to read my story about my wife has been supporting my crazy adventures all these years and how grateful I am for that.
