Advocating Healthy Eating - Media Library
Advocating healthy diet and lifestyle is my passion and calling, Regardless of where I am or what I am doing, as a medical doctor coaching patients at my clinic or as a chef interacting with my customers at my restaurant, I would make use of every opportunity to encourage people to unlock the power of their dietary habits to preserve health and combat diseases.
I have also been blessed with many opportunities to share and advocate on TV and print/media. Below is a collection of some of my media appearances. In the past few years, I've had the privilege to be invited by TV/print media to share my views on the importance of lifestyle and diet on health as well as my experience in promoting healthy living. I don't take any of these invitations for granted, I will continue to treasure these opportunities to encourage the public to unlock the power of a healthy lifestyle and diet for a longer healthier life.

晨光第一线 Morning Express《善方保健》5月8日:藜麦含有丰富营养 成为米饭替代品
May 2018
In February 2018, the then Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Razak stirred up a controversy and much media interest in quinoa on both sides of the causeway when he shared that he was substituting rice with quinoa as his staple food. Soon after that I was interviewed at my restaurant The Bento People for my views on the benefits of and use of Quinoa as a staple food on the Chinese morning news show on Channel 8.

Mediacorp Channel 8 - City Foragers Episode 4 城市觅食
October 2018
Channel 8's City Foragers 城市觅食 TV programme filmed at my restaurant The Bento People, I was challenged to cook with these 3 exotic ingredients - Moringa leaf, Noni fruit and Indian pennywort.
So I created 3 dishes from them - (1) Moringa Leaf Brown Rice and Moringa Leaf Quinoa (2) Noni Fruit Vegetables Curry (3) Indian Pennywort Leicha
The presenter Pornsak liked my Indian Pennywort Leicha and Moringa Leaf Brown Rice/Quinoa creations but he struggled with the Noni Fruit Vegetables Curry because of the bitterness of the Noni Fruit. Because I didn't want to add sugar to the curry to cover the bitterness of the Noni Fruit, I used a few jackfruit instead, but I guess it was not enough and Pornsak's face when he tasted the bitterness of noni fruit curry was quite something ... hahaa
I have never ever tasted these 3 ingredients before going on the show, let alone used them in my cooking. The topic of this episode of the show was 'Superfoods', but because I generally do not advocate any foods as 'superfoods', I chose instead to treat them as normal ingredients to create Low GI, Plant-Strong dishes, so that was why I ended up using these exotic ingredients to create on the show 1) Moringa Leaf Brown Rice and Moringa Leaf Quinoa (2) Noni Fruit Vegetables Curry (3) Indian Pennywort Leicha
If you want to watch the episode on Toggle >> http://bit.ly/Doc-CityForagers , the part where I start cooking is from the 15th minute onwards.

Mediacorp Channel 8 - What's In The Fridge? S2 冰箱的秘密 2 - EP16
March 2018
I was privileged to be invited to be a 'contestant' on this popular cooking game show on Channel 8. I was challenged to cook a healthy dish on the show. On the show, I decided to continue to stick to what I have always been advocating in terms of healthy eating - i.e being plant-strong and avoiding the use of sugar, oil and processed carbohydrates, even though it was a game show where I had to win over the judges. I cooked a vegan dish inspired by the Korean Budae Jjigae (Army Stew) , I consciously avoided using some of the must-have ingredients for Budae Jjigae even though that might not be well received by the judges, for example I made a conscious decision not to use Gochujang (because it contains a lot of sugar) or instant noodles (because I am an advocate for the reduction/avoidance of foods made from flour/processed carbohydrates) or Luncheon Meat (because I advocate the reduction/avoidance of processed meats).
But alas, I failed to win over the judges but I was extremely grateful for the privilege to be able to publicly advocate healthy eating on National TV and I had great fun! If I get the chance to go on the show again, I would still stick to my principles of healthy eating in terms of ingredients choices and cooking method but I will definitely try a lot harder to win over the judges because I want to change the public's wrong perception about healthy food, that they can be yummy too!

NHK World (Japan) - Bento Expo Season 3 Episode 5
Sept 2018
Japanese broadcaster NHK World came to Singapore and visited my restaurant The Bento People to get me to share my story on how and why I, a medical doctor, accidentally started the restaurant and became a full-time chef there and also why I decided to use a bento box as a visual guide to encourage customers to eat healthy.
It was amazing how an entire day of hard work filming at my restaurant was edited to just 2 mins on the show!

Here's to Health S8 健康在于你 8 - EP1
April 2016
Mediacorp Channel 8 show <Here's to Health 健康在于你> came to film and interview me at my restaurant The Bento People and although the episode was screened on TV in April 2016, I personally didn't watch it till 2 years later in April 2018 because I didn't have the courage to see myself embarrassing myself on national TV with my atrocious mandarin. But in April 2018, I finally summoned up enough courage to watch it online on toggle because I decided that if I were to be an effective advocate of healthy eating, I should embrace every opportunity/platforms to do so, even if it meant having to speak in my less proficient language , Mandarin.
Watch video from minute 15 onwards for my interview.

Nov 2017
医生拿锅铲卖健康便当
In November 2017, a Shin MIn Daily reporter asked for an interview, she was interested in my story, how I accidentally started a restaurant and became a full-time chef there and how subsequently i started a medical clinic to help people with chronic lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes to change their lifestyle and dietary habits. Initially I was reluctant to accept the interview because I was worried, I was not sure hw the article would turn out, especially whether my dual role as a doctor and chef would be appropriately communicated in the story but in the end, my fears were totally unfounded, I was glad I agreed to the interview because the reporter wrote a well balanced article in the end, for that I was very grateful.
